The Dates That Matter

Three dates decide what your 2026 tax bill will cost.

Deadline

February 1, 2027

Last day to pay without penalty.

January 31, 2027 falls on a Sunday, so the deadline moves to the next business day, Monday, February 1, 2027. Confirm the exact last day with your county tax office.

Penalties begin

February 2

Unpaid taxes become delinquent. A 6% penalty plus 1% interest, 7% in total, is added, and it grows every month after.

Collection penalty

July 1

An extra 15% or 20% can be added. Added to the total taxes, penalties and interest still due on real property, depending on the taxing jurisdiction.

What Waiting Costs, Month by Month

The penalty stops growing at 12% in July. Interest keeps adding 1% a month until the bill is paid.

On a $2,000 tax bill, paying in July instead of by the deadline adds $360, before any collection penalty.
